Spices are to India as Cheeseburgers are to the United States. Spices play a very important role in how food is cooked and consumed in India. Every spice has its own importance, own essence, and own flavor. Some common Indian spices are turmeric, cumin, cardamom, etc.
Indian spices are really beneficial for our health and thus are praised globally. Some benefits are listed as follows:
Cinnamon: Research shows that cinnamon can reduce blood sugar levels by slowing down the breakdown of carbohydrates and improving insulin sensitivity. It also can fight inflammation in the body and has antioxidant properties.
Turmeric: A thought of India, also brings the yellow-colored multi-beneficial turmeric into our mind. Turmeric can reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer, and also has anti-inflammatory properties, strong enough to outshine medicines.
Fenugreek: Fenugreek has many benefits too. It can increase the production of breast milk in mothers, control diabetes, reduce heartburn and improve metabolism. Ayurveda suggests consuming fenugreek water (made by soaking fenugreek seeds overnight in water) to maximize its benefits.
Asafoetida: Asafoetida, or hing, is often used to treat stomach-related issues, alongside bloating. It can also help to control high cholesterol levels in the body and treat IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). It is also commonly used to cure irregular menstruation and intestinal gas, but this claim has not been scientifically proven.
