How an Early Dinner is Beneficial

Updated: Sep 27, 2022

In this era of tight working schedules, there are many people who consume their dinner late at night. Consuming dinner late at night can be problematic as it can cause disease. According to dietitians and nutritionists, the ideal time for a person to have dinner is 3-4 hours prior to going to bed. It helps in better digestion of food, better sleep, aids weight loss and reduces the risk of heart attack and many more benefits that can lead you to a healthy lifestyle.

Some benefits to eating early are:

  1. Better Sleep: As there is a gap of 3 to 4 hours between the last meal and sleep the primary digestion has already taken place till your bedtime. Your digestive system won't be working overnight. The digestive system gets adequate rest.

  2. Weight loss: An early dinner habit helps in weight loss and triggers metabolism. The body completes its energy demands from stored body fat instead of glucose. It helps in better weight management. Its benefits include a better immune system and cellular regeneration and repair.

  3. Feeling Energetic: It makes you feel more energetic. You won't face issues while waking up and utilize the most productive time of the day i.e. morning.

  4. Relief from Acid Reflux: People who eat dinner before bedtime feel a burning sensation near the chest region. People who intake their dinner before 3 hours of sleep have the slightest possibility of this issue.

  5. Lowers risk of heart attack: When we sleep, our blood pressure gets reduced by 10% and in the morning before waking up it starts to increase again. Having dinner late at night disturbs this process and impacts blood pressure. As blood pressure remains at a high level there are higher chances of getting a heart attack. Consuming dinner early at least 3 hours before sleep reduces the risk of a heart attack.

  6. Lower risk of diabetes: An early dinner reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes. This happens when our body doesn't utilize insulin properly. By eating dinner early our body is able to use insulin properly and hence, reducing the risk of diabetes.

  7. Decrease the risk of cancer: People who consume their dinner late, have 15% higher chances of prostate cancer in men and breast cancer in women so by having dinner early you can decrease the chances of cancer.
